Annual Fund Campaign
The Annual Fund is the main source of income used by Friends of School of the Arts Foundation to help pay for Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts’ ongoing departmental expenses. The average cost is approximately $2,500 per student, per year—in excess of the amount received from the San Francisco Unified School District—to maintain the quality of our arts and academic programs. Parent contributions to the Annual Fund play a crucial role in bridging this gap between district funding and Asawa SOTA’s actual operating expenses.
Beginning in 2013, on the recommendation of Asawa SOTA’s principal, FoSOTA has served as the coordinator for all individual contributions to the school, eliminating the need for individual departmental fundraising campaigns. FoSOTA sends out two mailings annually, requesting that parents contribute as much as they can towards a preset Ask amount that reflects FoSOTA’s funding needs. In addition, FoSOTA coordinates a 100 Days for 100% Participation pledge drive. Information Donation Forms are mailed to parents who are able to indicate their ability to contribute to the Annual Fund during the coming year, allowing FoSOTA and the Asawa SOTA department heads to better predict probable funding levels for each art discipline.
Participation in FoSOTA’s annual giving campaign is an important aspect in the Asawa SOTA parent community. Through parents’ generosity, FoSOTA helps to ensure that students continue to enjoy the benefits of top-notch instruction, professional venues, and exceptional community visibility for their arts.
