Host a Fundraiser
FoSOTA, the arts departments, and Asawa SOTA as a whole all benefit greatly from supporters who are willing to contribute their time, energy, and expertise towards organizing a fundraising event. Individuals or groups who are interested in planning a fundraiser on behalf of SOTA—whether for the whole school or for a single department—are asked to submit a External Fundraising Proposal Form to FoSOTA, in order to clarify responsibilities and ensure the event meets the requirements of FoSOTA’s 501(c)3 charitable status. After this form is completed, FoSOTA will work with your group on a case-by-case basis to help coordinate the management of monetary contributions, contract agreements, acknowledgement to major donors, and provision of proof of tax exempt status.
How to get started:
Step 1: Decide what kind of fundraiser or event you want to host.
Step 2: Tell us about your idea by completing the External Fundraising Proposal Form.
Step 3: Once FoSOTA receive the form, we will meet with your department director to discuss your proposal. FoSOTA will contact you once a decision has been made.
Step 4: After your proposal has been approved, you’re ready to start planning for your event!
Step 5: After your event, let us know how it went by sharing your stories and photos.
Here are a few simple fundraising examples, but don’t limit yourself to these ideas … be creative!
Team up with your friends to bake scrumptious treats to sell at a local event.
In lieu of gifts, ask friends and family to consider a donation to FoSOTA for your birthday.
Team up with a local business that has space on a busy street and access to a water hose. Grab your buckets, sponges, soap, radio and handmade signs!
Dress Down Day
If your company dress code requires business wear, arrange a casual day with your employer. Colleagues can make a donation to participate – even better, allow supporters to demonstrate their sense of style by purchasing a student designed SOTA t-shirt, in advance, to wear during your Dress Down Day!
Ask the owner of your favorite restaurant if he/she would be willing to donate a portion of all proceeds made during a 2-3 hour event, and/or donate a portion of the proceeds from a special drink or food item.
Many restaurants will donate a portion of proceeds to a charity if patrons eat there during a certain day or week. Local restaurants make considerations when solicited by a community member, while larger chain restaurants often have applications for these events on their websites.
Clear your clutter and raise funds! Expand your sale by requesting contributions from other families in your department, neighbors, friends and family.
Do you have something BIGGER in mind? We can’t wait to hear about it! Experienced fundraisers willing to coordinate large-scale fundraising events (banquets, auctions, tournaments, etc.) are encouraged to submit their ideas.
FoSOTA is honored to be the beneficiary of community fundraising events organized by individuals and local businesses. Thank you for rallying your resources to generate much-needed funds to support our students.
