Gifts in Kind: Visiting Artist Donates Art Supplies

Grounded for a spell in San Francisco during the pandemic, a Bahamas denizen discovers Asawa SOTA on her way home.

Finally cleared for takeoff, artist Elza Behrens first dropped by Community Thrift Store to lighten up. At Community Thrift, donors can designate a charity partner to receive the proceeds from the sale of their donated items. Community Thrift charity partner Friends of Ruth Asawa School of the Arts caught her eye.

Knowing nothing about the school but a lot about Ruth Asawa, the artist was inspired to re-home her box of new art supplies directly to FOSOTA. We met up with her, brought back the supplies, and got them settled in at the school’s Architecture + Design department. Thank you, Elza!

Designating Friends of Ruth Asawa School of the Arts as your beneficiary at Community Thrift is an easy way to support arts education and arts-based learning. We also accept in-kind gifts — donations of goods and services that support our mission. Find out more about giving at FOSOTA.

We are ever grateful for our donors and partners. Together we are mighty.
