Asawa SOTA’s First Latinx/e Heritage Summit Hosts 800

School-wide workshops celebrate Latinx/e culture and heritage through art, music, dance, film, poetry, and cooking.

Organized by Asawa SOTA’s Latinx/e Student Union, the day-long summit was made possible by the collective work of student and teacher leaders, support staff, guest artists, and community volunteers.

Lead funding for the Latinx/e Heritage Summit was provided by FOSOTA in recognition of the event’s mission-aligned focus on elevating diverse voices and perspectives through the arts and arts-based learning.

Asawa SOTA principal Caitlin Boyle thanked all and gave a special shout-out to event leader and creative catalyst Teresa Castillo:

We are honored to have teachers like Ms. Castillo, who go above and beyond each and every day to amplify the voices of students and consistently hold their stories, dreams, and talents at the center of our shared work.

Boyle added that she hopes the summit marks the beginning of an annual Asawa SOTA tradition.
